Rex Ablett Shield - Coach of the Year

 

The Rex Ablett Award is a perpetual trophy named in honour of Rex Ablett, who served two stints as president of the juniors and who was also a prominent coach and committee member over many years, especially in the early years following the amalgamation of the Heathmont and Heatherdale clubs.

 

The Rex Ablett Award is presented to the junior “Coach of the Year”. Nominations for the award are provided to the Junior Committee by the Director of Football and Football Operations Manager – based on criteria including the following:

 

  • Demonstrated coaching skills and knowledge

  • Application, dedication and enthusiasm towards all facets of coaching including game day and training sessions

  • Demonstrated self development/improvement

  • Demonstration of the Club’s trademark coaching behaviours and coaching philosophy

A number of special awards are presented each year recognising our club volunteers. These awards include the following:

Tim Hacking Memorial Shield - Assistant of the Year

​

The Assistant of the Year Award is a perpetual trophy presented to recognise the contribution of our team support staff.   The award is named after Tim Hacking who had an association with the Heatherdale and Heathmont Junior and Senior Football Club over a 30 year period.  Tim was often seen every Saturday and Sunday behind the timekeepers desk helping keep score and schedule for the busy days of football.  He received life membership in both junior and senior clubs.

 

Nominations for the award are provided to the Junior Committee by the Director of Football based on criteria including the following:

 

  • Contribution to team such as assistant coach, runner, or interchange

  • Supporting the coach in weekly training sessions

  • Providing match day support in on field roles

  • Demonstrated coaching skills and knowledge

  • Application, dedication and enthusiasm towards all facets of coaching

  • Demonstration of the Club’s trademark behaviours and philosophy

Ken Lane Memorial Shield - Clubperson of the Year

 

The Club Person of the Year Award – the Ken Lane Award - is presented annually to a person who has made a significant contribution to the club in the previous twelve-month period or beyond. This can be a player, coach, committee member or supporter.

 

The award is named after Ken Lane who was heavily involved in Junior Football primarily with Heathmont and Heatherdale Junior Football clubs, Ken epitomised what it means to be a club person as he was always willing to help in any way, be it on the committee, coaching, or generally helping out around the club.

 

The award is determined by the Club Committee on the basis of any nominations provided to it.

 

Mark Lanyon Shield - Team Manager of the Year

​

This award celebrates the input of our team managers in the successful running of our teams.  It is presented annually to a team manager that demonstrates a significant contribution to their team and club.  The criteria includes –

​

  • Organisation skills

  • Communication

  • Team support of club events

  • Charity partner event support

  • Tenure

 

The award is named after Mark Lanyon who held a number of team and committee roles over a 10 year period at the club including team manager, team manager coordinator and club secretary.  He also helped guide the club through the COVID-19 impacted seasons of 2020 and 2021 as our club safety officer.

 

Nominations for the award are supplied by the Team Manager Coordinator and ratified by the Junior Executive Committee.

Franz Kielblock Shield- Trainer of the Year

​

The Franz Kielblock Award is awarded to our Trainer of the Year.  It is presented annually to a team trainer who demonstrates a significant contribution to the safety and welfare of our teams.  The criteria includes -

​

  • Advanced knowledge and execution of the sports trainer position

  • Exceptional service given to their team

  • Acting as a role model for others

  • Involved in areas outside of normal sports trainer’s work including but not limited to mentoring other trainers.

  • Displays initiative and persistence in working to overcome issues or barriers for sports trainers.

 

The award is named after former club president, Franz Kielblock, who was at the club for over a decade and held the position of trainer in a number of teams.    

 

Nominations for the award are supplied by the Trainers Coordinator and ratified by the Junior Executive Committee.
