The Jets Juniors under 8 team is open for player registration for 2023. Training will be on Wednesdays at 4.30pm at the Ponding Basin Reserve, opposite Heatherdale Reserve on Purches St, Mitcham. First training session starts on the 22nd March in the leadup to the first game on the 2nd April.
We welcome Matt Street to the Jet's as the 2023 Under 8 team coach. Matt brings extensive experience in junior and senior sports over the last decade to the role. This includes work with PGA Australia and he holds a Bachelor of Business in Sports Management.
Matt played football for 7 years for East Malvern in the Southern Football League and will draw upon his playing experience in his approach to the role. His playing memories are highlighted by the friends he made with his team mates along with the successful years on the field.
He can't wait for the season to start and his philosophy is to have fun, make friends, and play footy! Further information on the team is below -
Age/Mixed Gender
All genders can play in the under 8 competition. You just need to be born between the 1st January, 2015 and 30th April, 2016 to be eligible.

Game Location/Times
All under 8 games are played at Quambee Reserve in Ringwood North. They are 1 hour games held between 9am and 12pm on Sunday mornings. Season starts on the 2nd April and finishes on the the 23rd July.
Training Location/Times
Preseason training is once per week at the Ponding Basin Reserve, Purches St, Mitcham from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. In season training will move back to Heatherdale Reserve across the road.
Modified Rules
Under 8 games are a development format focusing on player enjoyment and building skills. There are 9 players per team on the ground at a time with 2 games per field. Games comprise 4 x 10 minute quarters. Every player rotates through the forward, back, and midfield lines per game so they all get a chance to get plenty of action.
Modified rules carry on from Auskick with no tackling, bumping, sheparding, kicking off the ground, playing on or advantage rule applying. These are introduced over the next 3 years before full competition starts. There is no scoring. ladders, or finals until Under 11 to encourage the learning environment.
